Rutgers Field Hockey Shutout by Michigan State

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Rutgers field hockey dropped a 5-0 decision to Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Trager Stadium on the campus of University of Louisville.
“We could not handle the pressure early as they forced us into making mistakes mainly on our outlets,” said head coach Liz Tchou. “We have to cut down on the unforced errors especially at the beginning of games.”
The Spartans (8-2) outshot the Scarlet Knights (1-11) 13-7 and held a slim 7-4 advantage in penalty corners.
MSU scored the game-winner just under two minutes into the game when Angela Pagura tallied the first of her two scores on the day. Floor Rijpma added a pair of goals and an assist for the Spartans.
RU freshman goalkeeper Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.) had four saves. Senior Brittany Bybel (Millville, N.J.) led the team with two shots, both on goal.
The Scarlet Knights return home next weekend for a pair of games, beginning with BIG EAST rival Providence on Friday, Oct. 9 with a start time of 3:00 p.m., changed from the originally scheduled 4:00 start. On Sunday, Oct. 11, RU entertains Saint Joseph’s at 2:00 p.m.
