Rutgers Field Hockey Falls to No. 5 Syracuse, 6-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (October 31, 2009) – Rutgers field hockey saw its season come to a close as the Scarlet Knights dropped a 6-1 contest to No. 5 Syracuse on Saturday at J.S. Coyne Stadium.
The Orange (16-2, 6-0 BIG EAST) got on the board first when Maggie Befort found the back of the cage. The Scarlet Knights (2-16, 0-6) tied the contest at 1-1. Senior Brittany Bybel (Millville, N.J.) tallied her ninth score of the season at the 14:16 mark of the first half.
Syracuse would reel off the next five unanswered goals of the game with two coming from Kristin Girouard, including the game-winner in the 24th minute.
The Orange outshot the Scarlet Knights, 19-5 and gained a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners. Rutgers freshman goalkeeper Vickie Lavell (Haddon Township, N.J.) had six saves.
