Doc Peterson Celebrated by RU Men's Lacrosse

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (October 11, 2010) – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team honored long-time friend of the program Dr. Earle Peterson this past Saturday by holding a “Day for Doc”.
“Doc is just a great supporter who has a love for the game and a love for Rutgers,” said head coach Jim Stagnitta. “He’s been a member of this program for a long time and has worn a lot of different hats. He’s been a supporter of our players and he’s certainly been a great friend and mentor to me during my nine years here.”
The “Day for Doc” began with the first annual Doc Peterson alumni game which saw alumni from even numbered years take on alums from odd numbered years in a friendly scrimmage that was officiated by members of the current RU coaching staff.
Following the alumni game, a banquet to honor Doc was held at the Busch Campus Visitor Center. At the banquet, five former RU lacrosse players (Rick Marcurio, Albert Ray, Reid Jackson, Nick Schmidt and John Flanagan), representing four generations of RU laxers, shared their memories of Doc before Doc was presented with a four-year varsity letter and a framed Rutgers Lacrosse #40 jersey to represent his 40 years of service. The banquet ended with Doc sharing some memories and words of wisdom with the crowd.
Peterson has been associated with the Rutgers lacrosse program for over 40 years as a supporter, fan, contributor, advisor to players and coaches and a valued friend. This year Doc has stepped away from lacrosse to be with his family in his home in Cooperstown, N.Y.
