Rutgers Men's Lacrosse Wraps Season of Giving
Dec 15 | Men's Lacrosse
NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (December 15, 2011) – The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team spent the fall and winter scrimmaging, training and conditioning in anticipation of the arrival of the 2012 spring season under first-year head coach Brian Brecht. Finished with the hard work, the Scarlet Knights turned to doing good, lending their many hands at the Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick during the holiday season.
“I am proud that our student-athletes have been able to build a relationship with the Ronald McDonald House this fall,” Brecht said. “It has been great seeing them work hard on the field, be diligent with their academics, and I’m extremely proud with the time they have been able to give back to our local community.”
The RU squad met as a group at the house for a final time before its winter break on Wednesday. The work trips over the months of November and December have included meal preparation, cleaning, moving items and assisting families and children around the Ronald McDonald House.
The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team also participated in the annual Big Chill 5K Run on the New Brunswick campus on Dec. 10. The squad donated more than 40 toys to the event, which has been run since 2003. In addition to its work at the Ronald McDonald House, the Scarlet Knights found time to pitch in at Elijah’s Promise Soup Kitchen in New Brunswick.
Rutgers begins its 2012 campaign on Sat., Feb. 11 at Duke at 1 p.m. The Blue Devils advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last season. Prior to the Scarlet Knight-Blue Devil matchup, Rutgers will scrimmage Penn and Lehigh in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sat., Feb. 4.
