PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers men's lacrosse program announced its 2014 individual award winners Saturday at the team's annual banquet. The banquet followed the annual Red and White Scrimmage, which capped fall action.
"It was great having all the families of the 2014 team join us in honoring the seniors and members of the 2014 team," said head coach Brian Brecht. "I can't thank the distinguished alumni speakers enough for coming back to share some of their experiences as Rutgers student-athletes and presenting the award they previously won to this year's winners."
The Scholar Athlete Award, awarded to the member of the team with the highest GPA, was presented to Campbell Sode (Dallas, Texas), who won the award for the third consecutive year.
Christian Trasolini (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) was presented with two awards at the banquet. After starting 16 games on attack in his freshman season, and finishing second on the team with 27 goals and third with 40 points, he was given the Al Twitchell Award, given to the freshman who was seen as the most valuable to the team. He also was given the Collins Award, awarded to the Rutgers Lacrosse team member who had the greatest increase in GPA.
The Alfred Sasser Trophy, awarded to the player with the most assists, was earned by Scott Bieda (Bridgewater, N.J.). Bieda had 24 assists, and was third overall in the BIG EAST and 32nd nationally with 1.60 assists per game.
The Robert Collett Trophy was awarded to outgoing senior Nick Contino, in recognition of the member of the squad who displays the best mental and physical spirit. He earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors last year, ranking first in the conference with 1.19 caused turnovers per game.
The Frederick Fitch Trophy, bestowed to the varsity letter-winner who, through personal effort to develop his lacrosse ability, showed the greatest improvement during the season, was presented to Anthony Terranova. In his final year in a Scarlet Knights jersey, Terranova was named Second Team All-BIG EAST and was the only RU player with at least one point in every game.
The Knight Cup is given annually to the player who has played the game of lacrosse to the best of his ability, who has, by example, inspired or led his teammates both on and off the field and who, above all, has consistently demonstrated the qualities of unselfishness and loyalty to his team and Rutgers University. This year's recipient was Joseph Nardella (Cazenovia, N.Y.), who earned Second Team All-BIG EAST honors for the second-straight season and will be one of four Rutgers captains for the upcoming season.
Scott Klimchak was given the William Miller Trophy, awarded to that team member who, by his own example, has served as an inspiration to his teammates and made the greatest contribution to the team during the season. The outgoing senior had a career-high 38 goals in 2014, finished his career tied for sixth on RU's all-time goals list with 124, tallied 156 points in his career, the most for an RU player since at least 2005
Andrew Parilla was honored with the Doc Peterson Award in recognition of his balance of both academics and athletics and also putting the success of the program and his teammates ahead of himself. Parilla started all 16 games in close defense for the Scarlet Knights and finished second on the team with 35 ground balls.
The awards banquet served as the final recognition of the senior class, which helped the team advance to the postseason for the first time in 10 years, and recorded the most wins (eight) since 2004. The squad had 28 members on the All-BIG EAST Academic Team, the most in program history, and saw four players named All-BIG EAST. Rutgers qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in its last season of competition before moving to the Big Ten Conference for the 2015 season.

"The Red/White scrimmage and banquet was a great cap to finish off our fall ball season, as we will now shift to our out of season workouts."
