PISCATAWAY, N.J. (September 12, 2014) – Rutgers men’s lacrosse Head Coach Brian Brecht announced the addition of Rob Camposa as a volunteer assistant coach Friday. Camposa joins the coaching staff after spending that past three seasons as an assistant at Div. II Molloy College in Rockville Center, N.Y.
“I am excited to add Rob to the coaching staff,” Coach Brecht said. “Rob brings a wealth of knowledge from his previous coaching positions at the college and club level to our student-athletes. His expertise with goalies will certainly be a benefit to our current players. It has been a great start to the new school year with his addition to our staff as we start fall practices and prepare for the 2015 inaugural season of Big Ten Lacrosse.”
During his three seasons as an assistant at Molloy, Camposa primarily worked with the goalkeepers. Last season, Molloy finished with an 8-6 record, appearing in the national rankings for eight weeks. Five players made the East Coast Conference All-Conference team, including goalkeeper John Grebe, who produced 144 saves and a .554 save percentage for the Lions. Grebe was named Lacrosse Magazine Division II Player of the Week after producing 16 saves in a win March 25 against then No. 5 LIU.
Under Camposa’s guidance, Grebe was twice named East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Week during the 2013 season as Molloy finished the season ranked 12th nationally, the first time the program was ranked since the 2009 campaign. The Lions finished 10-4 that season and were nationally ranked for nine weeks. Camposa also worked with the goalies during the 2012 season for Molloy.
In addition to coaching at Molloy, Camposa has extensive coaching at the club and youth levels. He has served as the head coach of the Team 91 Lacrosse Club and Long Island Wolves, as well as coaching at Dynamic Lacrosse Training and the Long Island Lacrosse Academy. He is currently the Director of the New York Lacrosse Academy.
As a player, Camposa was a goalkeeper at Stony Brook University from 2007 to 2011. During his collegiate career, Camposa played in 30 games, making 22-career starts between the pipes for the Seawolves. In his senior season, the Syosset, N.Y., native recorded 129 saves, good for a .538 save percentage and a spot on the All-America East Second Team. Camposa notched a 14-8 career record for Stony Brook with 230 saves.
