PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Feb. 11, 2015) - Former Scarlet Knight attackman Scott Klimchak has been claimed by Major League Lacrosse's Ohio Machine, the team announced.
Klimchak was a four-year letterwinner at Rutgers from 2010 to 2014, and finished his career "On the Banks" with 124 goals, which ranks sixth all-time in Rutgers history. The Clark, N.J., native won the team's William Miller Trophy in 2014, awarded to the team member who has constituted an inspiration to his teammates and made the greatest contribution to the team in the season's play.
As a senior in 2014, Klimchak led last year's squad with a career-high 38 goals and 43 points, while collecting 21 ground balls. His 38 goals were just two shy of tying for 10th on Rutgers' single season goals lists. He tallied 156 points in his career, the most for an RU player since at least 2005. Klimchak was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team in 2011 and also earned the Al Twitchell Award as RU's most valuable freshman.
Klimchak joins seven other Rutgers lacrosse alumni in the professional ranks in the past year. Justin Pennington and Chris O'Dougherty helped lead the Denver Outlaws to a MLL Championship. Brendan Porter and Will Mangan were members of the Boston Cannons, while Chris Mattes and Duncan Clancy were with the Florida Launch.
Joining them in the National Lacrosse League will be Michael Diehl, who has played three games this season for the New England Black Wolves, his second professional season in the NLL. O'Dougherty is also currently in the NLL with the Vancouver Stealth. Keith Cromwell, who is the Scarlet Knights' all-time leading goal-scorer, is an associate coach in the MLL with the New York Lizards. Current senior Joe Nardella was recently drafted by the MLL's Boston Cannons.
