PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers will welcome its second top-ten opponent of the season to High Point Solutions Stadium on Tuesday night when the Scarlet Knights welcome No. 9/11 Army for a 3 p.m. game. RU will play their fourth home game in the past 11 games. There will be no live video stream of the game, which will have alive audiobroadcast via online radio by InLacrosseWeTrust.com. The game will be Military Appreciation Day, and USA Block R Magnets will be given to the first 100 fans.
Rutgers sits at 2-3 on the season after a 1-1 week, following a 13-10 win over Wagner with a 10-9 loss to Monmouth. Offensively, the squad is buoyed by attackers Scott Bieda and Christian Trasolini. A junior captain, Bieda leads the team in points (15) and assists (6), while the sophomore Trasolini has a team-best six goals. Joe Nardella, a member of the Tewaarton Award Watch List, is a key performer for RU; winning 71 of 103 faceoffs and scooping a team best 41 ground balls.
Army enters the matchup at 4-1 on the season. The Black Knights lone loss of the season came at No. 2 Syracuse, while they collected victories over UMass, VMI, Jacksonville and Lafayette. Their offense is paced by John Glesener, who has 14 goals and six assists, followed closely by Cole Johnson (16 goals, three assists) and Connor Cook (12 goals, two assists). In the cage Sam Somers has made all five starts, with a .571 save percentage and 6.18 goals against average. The Black Knights have outscored opponents 79-29 this season.
The series with Army is the second-most played contest in Rutgers' history, dating back to 1923. Army leads the all-time series 55-21-1. Last season, Rutgers ended an Army six-game winning streak with a dramatic overtime victory at West Point. Last March 4, the Scarlet Knights knocked off then-No. 20 Army by a 9-8 score, with Scott Klimchak providing the winning score in OT. Army jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the game, but RU answered with the next six goals to take the lead, before it was sent into an extra session. The nine goals scored by Rutgers in the game were the most that Army surrendered in the regular season. Returners Rich Rambo and Connor Murphy scored in last season's contest.
