PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- A three-time letterwinner and member of the Rutgers 1990 NCAA Tournament team, Kyle Kirst passed away this week at the age of 47. Kirst was a well-respected member of the New Jersey lacrosse community serving the past ten seasons as an assistant coach at Summit High School.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Kyle's family," head coach Brian Brecht said. "We are very saddened by his passing. The Rutgers lacrosse family has suffered a tremendous loss."
Kirst was a goaltender at Rutgers from 1988 to 1990, as the Scarlet Knights compiled a record of 27-15. The 1990 team, which advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, recently celebrated its 25th reunion at the Rutgers game against Ohio State on April 25.
A wake will be held today at the School of St. Elizabeth in Bernardsville from 4pm to 8pm. On Friday a funeral will be at 12:30pm at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville.
A memorial fund has been established for Kyle and can be found here.
