PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers hosts the final two home games of the season this weekend, welcoming No. 6 Penn State on Friday and Richmond on Sunday. Friday's game starts at 3 p.m. and is the Scarlet Lottery Game, with students able to claim points towards the Scarlet Lottery. Sunday is Senior Day, as the program will honor eight seniors before the game: Elyse Broderick, Alyssa Bull, Devon Freshnock, Shevaun Hayes, Kimberly Jevic, Sarah Regn, Rachel Yaney and Sofia Walia.
This past weekend, RU went 1-1 in a pair of Big Ten games. After a 4-3 loss to Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights went on the road and claimed a 3-1 win at Ohio State. The victory over the Buckeyes clinched Rutgers its second ever Big Ten Tournament bid.
Linde van Schaik has seized the team lead on the offensive end. She had eight goals and 19 points, including three goals and eight points in conference games. RU's scoring is balanced overall, with nine players contributing the 14 goals in Big Ten games.
Penn State enters the contest at 12-2, and 4-2 in conference play. After starting the season 8-0, PSU took conference losses to No. 11 Northwestern and No. 6 Maryland. The team is led offensively by Moira Putsch (13 goals, 13 assists), Shay Cannon (10 goals) and Brooke Birosik (nine goals, seven assists). All-time, Penn State holds a 15-4-3 lead over RU. The last Rutgers win came in 1985, although RU took the Nittany Lions to overtime last season.
Richmond, fresh off a 4-1 loss to No. 9 Virginia on Tuesday night, stands at 6-8 on the season. They are led by Emma Johansson with six goals. In net, Amanda Hoyt has a 2.23 goals-against-average. RU holds a 2-1 advantage in the lifetime series, with wins in 1997 and 1998 and a loss in the last meeting in 2010.
