Field Hockey to Honor Eight Seniors Sunday
Oct 19 | Field Hockey
This Sunday, prior to a 1 p.m. home game vs. Richmond, Rutgers field hockey will honor a large, eight-person senior class. This group will leave behind a large legacy, as they have helped RU to 33 wins over the past four seasons, two appearances in the Big Ten Tournament, and numerous individual accolades.
"It's been incredible watching them grow on and off the field," head coach Meredith Civico said. "I'm so proud of this group. Many of them are having the best year of their careers as seniors, which is what you want as a coach, to see it all clicking and have all the pieces coming together. They are an incredibly diverse and unique group as individuals, with everyone bringing something different to the table, but they are an incredibly tight knit group that values each other's strengths and differences. This group has set the tone for the team and established the culture here. They're a special group to me."
Scarlet Knight Seniors
Elyse Broderick | Manahawkin, N.J.
After playing just one game as a freshman, Broderick took great strides in her development the following offseason, and has been a fixture in the lineup ever since, starting 50 consecutive games since her sophomore season. After spending two years at left back, she moved up into the midfield this season, locking down the left midfield spot.
Originally a member of the 2012 freshman class, Bull is finishing up her fifth year after an injury suffered in the 2013 season opener caused her to redshirt the season. Since returning from that injury, she has been an inspirational team leader as a three-year captain. She has started 69 career games, and has contributed 14 goals and 19 assists, which puts her seventh all-time at RU in career assists.
Devon Freshnock | Middletown, N.J.
Freshnock has been a fixture in the lineup her entire career, starting 66 games. A back with great speed, she has become a two-way threat, not only stabilizing the backline but also becoming an offensive threat. Utilizing a powerful shot that makes her a weapon on attack penalty corners, Freshnock has displayed her offensive ability as an upperclassman with 10 goals and eight assists in the past two seasons.
Shevaun Hayes | Melbourne, Australia
Hayes has spent 51 career games between the pipes for the Scarlet Knights, including starting every game in her sophomore and junior seasons. In her career, the Australia native has made 250 saves, placing her just outside Rutgers' all-time top ten leaderboard.
Kimberly Jevic | Voorhees, N.J.
After spending her freshman season at Northeastern, the Eastern High School graduate returned home to the Garden State for the past three seasons. As a senior, she has enjoyed her best offensive season, scoring four goals, including two goals in a win against Ohio.
Sarah Regn | Shamong, N.J.
Regn has played in 62 career games as a Scarlet Knight, and upon entering the starting lineup for the first time as a senior, she had a breakthrough senior season. Through the first 12 starts of her career, Sarah has set new personal bests with five goals, three assists, and 13 points.
Sofia Walia | Surrey, British Columbia
A two-time Big Ten Player to Watch, Walia has been an impact player all over the field for the Scarlet Knights. In addition to her stabilizing presence on the back line, she has been a force offensively to the tune of 15 goals and 18 assists, and was twice an All-Region selection.
Rachel Yaney | Bridgewater, N.J.
A local product from nearby Bridgewter, Yaney has been a consistent goal scorer throughout her Rutgers career. She has been in the starting lineup since her freshman year and has scored at least four goals in each season, with her 20 career goals putting her into the top-ten all-time "On the Banks".
