"This was a good team win tonight," head coach Brian Brecht said. "Having the opportunity to get everyone in the game and have success was good for us. It's a great opportunity to be 6-2 right now at the halfway point, going into some great exciting games under the lights at High Point Solutions Stadium."
Rutgers led 3-1 after the first period, with Charalambides scoring twice in the opening stanza. They expanded that lead to 6-1 at the intermission, outscoring the Highlanders 3-0 in the second quarter. The third quarter was where Rutgers took firm control of the game, scoring all seven goals in the frame. They held on from there for the 13-goal win.
"I'm very proud of the way we came out of the locker room at halftime," Brecht explained. "When you play games, you always want to be sharp, you want to be focused. You want to have a lot of passion from the opening whistle. I thought our passion grew as the game went on."
Next up for Rutgers is a home contest against Delaware next Saturday. Game time is 7 p.m.
