Men's Soccer Hosts No. 16 Penn State on Senior Day

Playoff seeding on the line against the Nittany Lions, who represent the Scarlet Knights' second nationally ranked opponent in two weeks.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Nov. 1, 2019) – Following a four-match road stint, Rutgers concludes the 2019 regular season on Sunday, Nov. 3 at home against No. 16 Penn State on Senior Day at Yurcak Field at 3 p.m.
The game immediately proceeds a Rutgers women's soccer Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal against Indiana beginning at noon at Yurcak Field.

• Senior Salute | Rutgers seniors Jake Longo and Tim McQuaid play their final home games of their careers. Longo appears in his 27th game as a member of the Rutgers backline after scoring his first collegiate goal this season against Wisconsin. McQuaid plays in his 52nd game "On the Banks" with five career points on two goals and an assist.
• With one match to play, Rutgers sits in the NCAA RPI rankings in 69th place, a stark improvement over the last three seasons, which had an average RPI ranking of 150 at this point in the season. The Scarlet Knights have garnered nine points from two wins and three draws against opponents currently in the RPI Top 100 - including a win and a draw against teams in the Top 50. This is another vast improvement over the last three years, which had one point combined against the Top 100 from 2016-18.
• The Scarlet Knights had a chance at securing its first undefeated non-conference slate since 1983 before a hard-luck 1-0 loss at Lehigh on Tuesday. At 6-1-2 this fall outside the Big Ten, Rutgers has one of the best winning percentage (.778) in school history (5th) in non-conference play.
• The Scarlet Knights outshot Lehigh, 23-8, on Tuesday night, but a fortunate ricocheted Mountain Hawk corner kick found the back of the RU net in the 73rd minute for the match's only score.
• Rutgers dropped a Big Ten match at No. 10 Indiana (10-2-3, 5-1-0) by a score of 3-0 on Oct. 25 in front of 2,105 fans at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium, where the Hoosiers extended their home undefeated streak to 35 with a record of 31-0-4.
• Rutgers rookies Jørgen Wisth Lie and Jackson Temple are ranked No. 40 and No. 97, respectively, in the midseason Top Drawer Soccer Top 100 Freshmen list. They are two of four freshmen that have started all 16 games for the Scarlet Knights this season, joining back Hugo Le Guennec and goalkeeper Oren Asher.
• Sophomore Pablo Ávila is ranked fourth in the Big Ten with six goals with Michigan's Nebojsa Popovic topping the list with 10 tallies.
• Ávila is also tied for fourth in total points (14) behind Michigan's Popovic (23), Penn State's Aaron Molloy (21) and Ohio State's Jack Holland (17).
• Ávila and freshman Jackson Temple along with David Kovacic (Maryland), Bardia Kimiavi (Northwestern), Devyn Etling (Ohio State) and Joshua Penn (Indiana) each have two game-winning goals in 2019 and are tied for third in the Big Ten in the category. PSU's Butts tops the list with five game-winners.
• In goal, freshman Oren Asher is third in saves (51), while leading the conference with Ohio State's Parker Siegfried with three clean sheets on the season.
• Down two goals just 13 minutes in, Penn State (10-2-3, 5-1-1 Big Ten) scored three unanswered, including the golden goal in overtime, to top defending national champions Maryland, 3-2, Tuesday evening at Jeffrey Field.
• The comeback victory marks the first time Penn State has erased a 2-0 deficit to come back and win since a 3-2 win over then-No. 17 Ohio State on Oct. 11, 2008. Penn State won its first game of the season over a ranked team, also the first victory over a ranked team since Oct. 15, 2016 when the Nittany Lions knocked off then-No. 19 Michigan State, 1-0 in overtime.
• Liam Butts has a Big Ten-leading five game-winning goals this season out of his seven overall tallies.
• Freshman goalkeeper Kris Shakes is a perfect 7-0-0 in net this season.
Penn State leads the all-time series 13-8 overall since 1982, and 5-0 as Big Ten opponents since 2014. The Nittany Lions prevailed in University Park, Pa. in 2018 by a 2-0 score with goals by Callum Pritchatt and Ethan Beckford.
• Heading into the final match day of the season, Rutgers and Ohio State are tied for seventh with four points apiece, but the Buckeyes hold the head-to-head tiebreaker via their 1-0 victory in Piscataway on Oct. 6. If RU and OSU are tied heading into the postseason, Rutgers will compete in the Big Ten Tournament play-in game on Saturday, Nov. 9 in a neutral-site game at the home of the No. 1 seed before playing the aforementioned No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals on Sunday, Nov. 10.
• Ohio State plays last place Wisconsin in its final Big Ten match on Sunday.
