PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 16 Rutgers men's lacrosse had its three captains named Preseason Players to Watch as the Big Ten unveiled its preseason honors on Monday to start Big Ten Lacrosse Digital Preview Week. Garrett Bullett, Adam Charalambides and Kieran Mullins were all named Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch. In the Preseason Coaches Poll, the team was pegged to finish fifth.
Bullett first entered the Rutgers locker room in the fall of 2015, but took redshirts in the 2016 and 2017 seasons due to injuries. The defender has started 28 of 32 games played in his career, with the other four coming as a long-stick midfielder before transitioning to close defense. In that time, he has collected 59 ground balls, 23 caused turnovers and one assist. Last season, he earned a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week accolade following his performance in the win over Princeton. The Draper, Utah native and product of Corner Canyon High School is majoring in Human Resource Management. Last month, he was awarded the team's Doc Peterson Award at the 2019 team awards banquet.
Charalambides will begin his sixth season at Rutgers as a redshirt junior and a captain for the second straight season. Having already earned an undergraduate degree in Supply Chain and Marketing Science, he is enrolled in graduate school for Urban Planning and Policy Development. The team's winner of the Robert Collette Trophy has persevered through multiple injuries to have success on the field. In 2016, he won Big Ten Freshman of the Year after scoring 45 goals, then-tied for fifth most in a season at RU history, and most for a first-year player. Upon returning to game action in 2019, he led the team with 47 goals and 61 points to earned First Team All-Big Ten and All-ECAC honors. The Georgetown, Ontario native scored 18 goals in conference-only games led Big Ten, finished the season seventh in the nation and second in the conference in goals per game (3.13) and 15th in the country in points per game (4.62).
Mullins enters his senior season as a two-time captain having started every game in his 41 game career 'On The Banks'. In that time, the attackman has scored 89 goals and added 70 assists for 159 points. Last season, the Islip, N.Y. native set career-highs with 37 assists and 60 points, winning the team's Alfred Sasser Trophy and earning Honorable Mention All-American, First Team All-Big Ten and All-ECAC honors. He finished the season sixth in the nation and second in the conference with 2.85 assists per game and 15th in the nation in points per game (4.62). Mullins, a Biological Sciences major, is on the Pre-Med track and was recently inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society.
