Charalambides, Mullins Named to 2020 Tewaaraton Award Watch List
Feb 13 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – For the second straight season, Rutgers men's lacrosse will be represented by Adam Charalambides and Kieran Mullins on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. The pair of attackmen were announced as members of the watch list for the nation's premier lacrosse award on Thursday night. The duo were RU's two top leading returning scorers, each totaling at least 60 points last season and each are in their second year as a team captain.
Charalambides was a 2019 First Team All-Big Ten selection after leading the team with 47 goals and 61 points. He has seven goals and two assists through two games this season. In his 33 games career, he has 97 goals and 30 assists for 127 points.
Mullins was a 2019 All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection following a season with 23 goals and 37 assists. This year, he has added two goals and six assists, and has compiled 91 goals and 76 assists for 176 points in 43 career games.
This is the sixth consecutive season that Rutgers has had a player on the Watch List. In addition to Charalambides and Mullins in consecutive years, Jules Heningburg (twice), Michael Rexrode, Scott Bieda and Joe Nardella have been recognized in that span. Also previously recognized were Will Mangan, Justin Pennington, Chris O'Dougherty and Greg Havalchak. The 20th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held May 28, 2020 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.
Founded at the University Club of Washington, DC and first presented in 2001, the Tewaaraton Award is recognized as the preeminent lacrosse award, annually honoring the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. Endorsed by the Mohawk Nation Council of Elders and U.S. Lacrosse, the Tewaaraton Award symbolizes lacrosse's centuries-old roots in Native American heritage. The Tewaaraton Foundation ensures the integrity and advances the mission of this award. Each year, the Tewaaraton Award celebrates one of the six tribal nations of the Iroquois Confederacy - the Mohawk, Cayuga, Oneida, Onondaga, Seneca and Tuscarora - and presents two scholarships to students of Native American descent. Players not named to the initial lists have several opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions, if applicable, will be announced on March 12 and April 2. On April 23, the field will be narrowed to 25 men's and 25 women's nominees. Nominees can be players from the watch lists or not from the watch lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. Five men's and five women's finalists will be announced on May 7 and invited to the 20th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony in Washington, D.C., on May 28.
