PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse returns home following two games on the road, and will host Stony Brook at noon Saturday at SHI Stadium. The game will be live streamed on BTN Plus with Lou Brogno and Rick Mercurio on the call. WRSU will have a radio broadcast of the contest, with Chris Tsakonas and Jake Schmied on the call. The game is part of a double-header with Rutgers women's lacrosse to follow. The first 200 fans will receive free Rutgers lacrosse scarves.
Rutgers enters the game with a 2-2 overall record, following a tightly contested one-goal loss at No. 11 Loyola. Both of RU's losses have come on the road against ranked foes, while the two wins have come at home by a combined margin of 37-19. Offensively, Rutgers has been a quartet of top scorers.
David Sprock, who set career highs with four goals, two assists and six points at Loyola, leads the team with 13 points on the year (nine goals and four assists).
Adam Charalambides (nine goals, three assists),
Ryan Gallagher (nine goals, three assists) and
Kieran Mullins (five goals and seven assists) are all tied with 12 points.
On the defensive end, RU had two players recognized as Big Ten Players of the Week.
Zach Masessa led Rutgers last weekend with three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and held All-American Kevin Lindley to one goal. He was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Goalkeeper
Stephen Russo made a season-high 16 saves, including 11 in the opening half. He was named the Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week. Rutgers is fifth in the nation in man-down defense (.900) and fifth in turnovers per game (13.5)
Under first year head coach Anthony Gilardi, Stony Brook is 3-1 on the year. The Seawolves have earned overtime wins against St. John's and Brown and defeated Hofstra, falling at Fairfield. Caleb Pearson leads the team with 10 goals, followed by Cory Vanginhoven with nine and Tom Haum with eight. In goal, Michael Bollinger has a 12.11 goals-against-average and 56.9% save percentage following a 22-save output in the win over Brown. Bollinger ranks fourth nationally with 15.5 saves per game.
Rutgers leads the all-time series against Stony Brook 6-5. The series renews after being contested annually from 2013 to 2017. The Scarlet Knights won that last meeting, defeating then-No. 14 Stony Brook by a 17-4 margin in Piscataway. Then freshman
Kieran Mullins led the Scarlet Knights with three goals in that game.
