Mullins and Charalambides Named Scholar All-Americans

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers had two student-athletes named Scholar All-Americans by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA). Kieran Mullins and Adam Charalambides earned the accolade for the combination of their performances on the field and in the classroom.
Mullins, who recently recieved a postgraduate scholarship from the Big Ten, is a two-time team captain for the Scarlet Knights. He was an All-American in 2019 and is a two-time all-conference selection, earning First Team honors in 2019, and was Second Team All-Big Ten in 2017. He was named All-ECAC in 2019 and is a two-time nominee to the Tewaaraton Award Watch List. Mullins has started all 47 games in his Rutgers career, scoring 99 goals with 80 assists and 179 points. He ranks eighth all-time in Rutgers' history in points and 11th in goals. A two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, he is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and earned the Rutgers' Athletic Directors Award and Werblin Award in 2019. He was also named a nominee for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award. A member of the Dean's List in all his semesters at RU, he is a member of the National College Athletic Honor Society. The Islip, N.Y. native holds a 3.79 cumulative GPA in Cell Biology and Neuroscience, and will use the postgraduate scholarship to pursue a career in medicine.
Charalambides earned the recognition for the second straight year. The two-time team captain has played in 37 career games (all starts), scoring 105 goals and adding 35 assists for 140 points. He is 10th all-time at Rutgers in career-goals.A two-time member of Tewaaraton Award Watch List and 2019 First Team All-Big Ten, he is a four-time Academic All-Big Ten selection. A 2019 All-ECAC selection, he was a Preseason All-American in 2017. In 2016 he scored 45 goals, sixth in a single-season in Rutgers history, and was named, Big Ten Freshman of the Year and to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Returning from injury in 2019, he scored 47 goals, the third most in a single season in Rutgers history. Charalambides has earned his undergraduate degree and is enrolled in graduate school for Labor Studies and Employment Relations.
With these selections, Rutgers now has 20 Scholar All-Americans in program history, including 16 recognized in the past six years. Last season, Adam Charalambides, Mark Christiano, Max Edelmann, Garrett Michaeli and Kyle Pless earned the accolade. They joined Christian Mazzone and Michael Rexrode (2018), Connor Murphy (2017), Scott Bieda and Zack Sikora (2016), Joe Nardella and Campbell Sode (2015), Will Mangan (2012), Brian Shemesh (2011), Jamie Lovejoy (2005) and Jeff Duca (2003).
The USILA Scholar All-America Program was established to recognize student-athletes from USILA member institutions who have distinguished themselves academically, athletically and as citizens of their communities. The USILA Selection Committee selects an overall team representing Division I, II and III.
