
Five From Men's Lacrosse Selected for USILA Senior All-Star Game

Adam Charalambides, Colin Kirst, Ryan Gallagher, Zach Masessa and Kieran Mullins to Participate in annual North/South Game
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse had five student-athletes selected for the rosters of the 2021 USILA Senior All-Star game. Adam Charalambides, Colin Kirst, Ryan Gallagher, Zach Masessa and Kieran Mullins were chosen for the contest, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 28 at Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI.
The Scarlet Knights will continue a proud tradition of representation at the annual North-South Game, which dates back to 1940. With these program-record five representatives, Rutgers will count 131 players all-time participating in all-star event. In the last three years that the event has been had, 13 Scarlet Knights have participated, and the number is 17 over the previous five games dating back to game MVP Scott Bieda in 2016. Rutgers' five student-athletes lead all teams in representation, with the five RU players all on one team.
Charalambides finished his career with 149 goals (second all-time at Rutgers) and 201 career points (fifth all-time at Rutgers). He had 10 game-winning goals and collected 87 ground balls while causing 13 turnovers. One of just two players in Rutgers history with three separate 40-goal seasons, the Georgetown, Ontario native was named an All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2021. In his career he was also a Scholar All-American, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and twice was named First Team All-Big Ten.
Kirst established himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the nation with a stellar senior season for RU, posting a 10.77 goals-against average and .556 save percentage off 179 saves. The Bernardsville, N.J. native was an All-American, First Team All-Big Ten and the Big Ten Specialist of the Year. Kirst led the Big Ten in save percentage and saves per game and led the team in ground balls. He had double-digit saves in 12 of 13 games, with seven games of at least 15 saves, and twice reaching 19 saves
Gallagher was a multi-year captain for the Scarlet Knights. The Atlanta, Ga. native has played in 49 career games with 43 starts, scoring 48 goals and adding 41 assists for 89 points. A starter at both midfield and attack in his career, he had seven goals and four assists as a senior.
Masessa played in 38 career games, 29 of them coming as a Scarlet Knight over the past three seasons. The Montgomery, N.J. native was a key contributor between long-stick midfield and at defense. He finished his career with two goals, two assists, 50 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers. As a senior he posted career-bests in ground balls (21) and caused turnovers (10).
Mullins finished a stellar RU career as one of the top producing attackmen in program history. He finished his career with 127 career goals (seven all-time at RU) and 103 career assists (sixth all-time at RU), to place him second on Rutgers' all-time leaderboard with 230 career points. The Islip, N.Y. native finished out his senior season by leading the team with 23 assists while adding 28 goals (third on the team). A three-time All-Big Ten selection, he has earned multiple off-field recognitions as well. The Pre-Med student earned the Wayne Duke Award and Big Ten Postgraduate Scholarship, while being inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the National Collegiate Athlete Honor Society.
Rutgers recently finished a historic season, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004. The Scarlet Knights took down No. 8 seed Lehigh in the opening round, the first NCAA Tournament win for the program since 1990.
