PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse assistant coach
Eric Seremet earned the 'Division I Most Outstanding Assistant Coach' Award from the IMLCA, it was announced by the association at the organization's annual convention this week. Seremet serves as the program's offensive coordinator, a role he has held since 2018.
In 2022, Rutgers had a historic season with the program's first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. The Scarlet Knights set a new program record with 15 wins, smashing the previous record of 11. RU downed a record six ranked foes during the season (No. 10 Army, No. 19 Loyola, No. 8 Ohio State, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 14 Harvard and No. 3 Penn), while advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game for the first time since 2016. Rutgers hosted an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since 2003 and defeated Harvard in front of 5,212 fans, the third largest crowd for an NCAA Tournament First Round game since 2003. RU then defeated No. 3 Penn in the NCAA Quarterfinals to match the highest ranked win in program history.
Despite the loss of their four top scorers from the previous season, Seremet's offense ranked in the top-ten nationally in scoring. Attackman
Ross Scott scored 50 goals, tying the program's single-season record, and was joined by
Mitch Bartolo 45 goals to give RU a pair of 40+ goalscorers for the first time in program history. Rutgers' had seven All-Americans, with offensive players Scott,
Shane Knobloch and
Ronan Jacoby earning recognition.
A graduate of the University of North Carolina, where he played on the Tar Heels' 1991 NCAA championship team, Seremet spent 15 years on the coaching staff of Air Force prior to coming to RU. He was the program's head coach from 2009 to 2017. In that time as head coach, his record was 73-62.
Since Seremet joined the staff ahead of the 2019 season, RU has won 33 games. The Scarlet Knights have made back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances and earned victories in each postseason, advancing to the Final Four (2022) and Quarterfinals (2021)
