Rutgers had 12 different goal scorers in the victory
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 8 Rutgers men's lacrosse had a dominating performance in a Tuesday afternoon midweek contest, taking down Lafayette, 22-10. Twelve different Scarlet Knights scored on the day, led by four goals apiece from Ross Scott and Ronan Jacoby.
Mitch Bartolo, Brian Cameron, Jack Aimone and Dante Kulas each had two goals while Tommy Coyne, Michael Sanguinetti, Justin Kim, Erik Henig, Eric Civetti and Christian Maisel each tallied. Ross Scott also had a career-high three assists to tie his career high with a game-high seven points.
"We were sticking to our offense well today," Scott explained. "I had a lot of help from our guys getting me the ball in the right spots and setting us up. We're at our best when all six guys are playing together and moving the ball around. We tried to play within our system, play our game, make the simple passes, and that makes it look easy out there. That's our goal every time we go out there."
Rutgers led in shots (45-32) and was 24-of-26 on clears. The Scarlet Knights won 19 faceoffs and had 38 ground balls.
Ethan Rall had another excellent performance with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Colin Kirst made 10 saves and allowed just five goals in his time in cage.
The game was even in the early going, with RU holding a 4-3 advantage after one quarter. In the second quarter, RU outscored the Leopards 7-2 to take an 11-5 lead. The home team used an overall 16-2 run to turn the score from 3-3 in the first quarter to a 19-5 blowout in the fourth. Both teams subbed extensively in the final quarter, with a number of different players seeing playing time as RU closed out the win.
Rutgers is back on the road this weekend. The Scarlet Knights travel to Long Island, where they will face Hofstra at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
