Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 14 Men’s Lacrosse Falls at No. 7 Maryland in Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – No. 14 Rutgers men's lacrosse traveled on the road to face defending national champion and No. 7 ranked Maryland in postseason play on Saturday night. Rutgers (8-6) fell to the Terps (9-4) by a 14-11 final score in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinals.

Jack Aimone tied his career-high with four goals, his most ever against a Big Ten team. He led RU with five points, while Shane Knobloch had a hat trick and Ross Scott had four assists. Brady Kurdyla, James Ringer, Eric Civetti and Brian Cameron also scored goals.

Ethan Rall had two caused turnovers in the game. That gave him 85 for his career, breaking the RU career record previously set by Nick Contino.

Jack Aimone had a dynamic start for RU, scoring the team's first three goals of the day. He posted a hat trick just 19 minutes into the game. However, Maryland had the early momentum with a 5-3 lead.

Freshman Brady Kurdyla added a second quarter goal, his first in a Big Ten game this year, to get RU back within two at 6-4. Shane Knobloch added an unassisted tally, but the Terps led 8-5 at halftime.

Maryland scored the only two goals of the third quarter. The home team led 10-5 after three frames.

In the fourth quarter, Knobloch and Cameron had back-to-back tallies, and the Scarlet Knights refused to relent late. After scoring five goals in the first three quarters, the visitors rallied for six goals in the fourth quarter. However, it was not enough to push Rutgers back into the game, as the home team claimed the victory.

"It was tough," Ethan Rall said. "Give Maryland credit where it's due, we weren't buttoned up enough. I'm super proud of this group. The last few years have been awesome. Being named captain here is the best thing that's ever happened to me. The guys in the locker room, how much we bond over the years is special. I've made lifelong friendships and being with these guys, that's what you live for and the moments you won't forget."

Ross Scott's four assists were the second time over the past three games that he had four helpers, both against Maryland. Scott held the team lead with 42 points on the season (25 goals, 17 assists). Cameron's goal gave him a team-high 26 goals on the year in just 11 games played. He was closely trailed in goals by Ross Scott, Dante Kulas and Jack Aimone, who all shared second place on the squad with 25 goals.
