PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers' men's lacrosse will be represented by four student-athletes at this year's USILA Senior All-Star Game. Bobby Russo, David Sprock, Jonathan Dugenio and Brad Apgar were tabbed for the event. All four will play for the North team in the game, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Cabrini University. Rutgers' four representatives give them the most players of any school in the Division I/II game.
Russo, a 2023 team captain, was a starting defenseman for the past three seasons and was the 2022 Big Ten Outstanding Sportsmanship Award winner. The Bridgewater, N.J. native started 46 of his 58 games 'On the Banks', with 107 ground balls and 42 caused turnovers, along with five goals and seven assists.
Sprock, a 2023 team captain, played in 47 career games, with 48 goals and 23 assists. A native of Dallas, Texas, he was a 2021 All-American and then a Preseason All-American in 2022 before missing the year due to injury, and successfully returned as a starting midfielder this year. A three-time Academic Big Ten selection, he was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar.
Dugenio spent the last three seasons as RU's top faceoff specialist. The Bridgewater, N.J. native took 893 faceoffs over his RU career, winning 425 of them. He also collected an even 200 ground balls and caused 11 turnovers, while showing his offensive skills with five goals and 12 assists.
Apgar spent the last two seasons 'On the Banks' after a three-time All-American career at the Division III level with Salisbury. At RU, he played in 24 games, starting 16 of those at defense, while also playing long-stick midfield in 2022. The Milford, N.J. native caused 21 turnovers and had 21 ground balls, winning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week this year following a three-caused turnover day in the 11-7 win over Stony Brook.
These four Scarlet Knights will continue a proud tradition of representation at the annual North-South Game, which dates back to 1940. Rutgers will count 135 players all-time participating in all-star event. RU has 21 representatives in the game over the past seven years (five eligible games), dating back to game MVP Scott Bieda in 2016. Rutgers did not have any players in the 2022 All-Star Game as the team was participating in the Final Four that weekend.
