Kuroda-Grauer, Doucette Receive Big Ten Weekly Honors

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball received a pair of weekly awards from the Big Ten on Monday afternoon, as Josh Kuroda-Grauer was named Big Ten Player of the Week and Ty Doucette was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for their performances over the team's last five contests. 

Kuroda-Grauer receives his first weekly award from the conference thanks in part an astounding weekend at Delaware. in three games against the Blue Hens, he went 12-for-17 (.706) with a home run, five doubles, eight RBIs and nine runs scored. In the week as a whole, Kuroda-Grauer had a hit and run scored in all five games, registering a hit and run scored in both games at No. 13 North Carolina in midweek action. He finished the five-game stretch with 14 hits, 11 runs, six extra-base hits, eight RBIs, two stolen bases and did not strike out in his 26 at-bats. In the field, he was a perfect 1.000 in five starts at shortstop, registering six putouts, 10 assists and turning three double plays. 

At Delaware, Kuroda-Grauer had three-plus hits and three runs scored in every game of the series. He opened the weekend with a. 4-for-6 effort, collecting three doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. In a 27-13 series-clinching win on Saturday, he went 5-for-6 with a three-run home run, two more doubles, six RBIs, and another three runs scored. He capped off the weekend with a 3-for-5 performance with three runs scored in a 14-3 win to complete the sweep of the Blue Hens. 

After missing nine games with an injury, Ty Doucette returned the Rutgers lineup and made a massive impact over spring break en route to his first career Big Ten honor. In the first inning of his first game at No.13 North Carolina, Doucette laced an RBI single and would score runs in both games against the Tar Heels. 

Over the weekend at Delaware, Doucette went 8-for-11 (.727), hitting three home runs, driving in 10 and scoring five runs. In Friday's series-opening win, he hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning, putting Rutgers up 14-10 in a game it would win 15-10. On Saturday, reached base all four times, going 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. He closed out the series in a big way, going 4-for-4 in the series finale, hitting a pair of home runs including a go-ahead solo shot that put the Scarlet Knights ahead for good in the fifth inning. Doucette also drove in four runs, scored twice and was hit by a pitch twice. Dating back to his go-ahead grand slam on Friday, Doucette reached base in his last 11 plate appearances of the weekend.
