Kurdyla Named Captain for Team USA U-20 Team in World Lacrosse Championships

Scarlet Knight Rising Junior To Lead Squad in Event in Korea

SPARKS, Md. — Rutgers men's lacrosse rising junior Colin Kurdyla was named as a team captain for Team USA for the the 2025 U.S. Men's U20 team that will begin competition in the World Lacrosse Men's U20 Championship this weekend in South Korea. Kurdyla is one of two team captains, joining Notre Dame's Shawn Lyght. 

The U.S., which has won each of the previous nine World Lacrosse junior men's field championships, begins play against rival Canada. The U.S. edged Canada 12-10 in the most recent edition of this championship in 2022, earning a Gold Medal with Rutgers alumn Shane Knobloch on the squad.

All games from the tournament will be streamed live on World Lacrosse TV with packages running $35 for the entire event.

"This means the world to me, to be able to be named captain and represent my country," Kurdyla said. "I'm really honored, excited and fired up to get after it out here in Korea."

Kurdyla last season earned his first All-American recognition and was named a Second Team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Tournament team selection. The sophomore from Bridgewater, N.J., who was also a Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch, led the team with 27 goals and 40 assists, while also posting 13 assists, second on the team. He was seventh in the Big Ten in goals per game and ninth in points per game.

Kurdyla also posted nine goals and 13 points in the five Big Ten regular season conference games, fifth in the league, and added six more goals in the conference tournament, giving him 15 goals across the last seven games of the year, and 21 goals in the final nine contests.

A winner of the Werblin Award and an Academic All-Big Ten selection, Kurdyla has played in 30 games across his first two seasons as a Scarlet Knight. In that time, he has scored 47 goals and added 23 assists for 70 points.
