Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Hofstra, 17-7

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (4-2) earned a dominant 17-7 win over Hofstra (3-3) on Saturday at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights never trailed the Pride in the out-of-conference matchup, outshooting the visitors 35-22 and outscoring their opponent 10-5 in the second half.
Sophomore Caroline Ling matched a career high with seven points on five goals and two assists, while freshman Kate Theofield netted a career-high four goals on six shots. Senior Lily Dixon dished out five assists, passing Marin Hartshorn (2019-23) for the most assist in program history at 94 during her time 'On the Banks.'
Redshirt sophomore Samantha Swanovich, sophomores Hilary Elsner and Delainey Sutley and rookie Gabby Mariani all contributed multiple points, with Mariani scoring the first goal of her collegiate career.
Rutgers once again dominated on 50-50 opportunities, with senior Katie Buck setting a program single-game record for draw controls with 14 to help the Scarlet Knights to a 17-8 advantage in center circle. Buck also caused a game-high three turnovers. Graduate student goalkeeper Simone Koryszewski saved seven shots in the first half to earn her fourth win of the season.
RU wasted no time against Hofstra, using a 4-1 scoring run in the first 12 minutes of the game to take control. Dixon dished out back-to-back assists, including a feed to Sutley to make it 4-1 Rutgers with 3:52 left in the first quarter.
After the Pride scored to make it a two-goal game, Rutgers countered with five consecutive goals across its next two quarters to begin to pull away. The run included three consecutive player-up opportunities, as Mariani's unassisted goal made it 9-2 Scarlet Knights at the 12:06 mark in the third quarter.
Hofstra would get within four six minutes into the third quarter before RU put the game away for good with six consecutive goals. Theofield scored three times during the stretch, including another highlight behind-the-back goal off a pass from Dixon early in the fourth quarter to make it a 15-5 advantage. Both teams would trade multiple goals down the stretch before Rutgers ended the day with a 17-7 victory,
