Powers, a standout guard known for his defensive tenacity and versatility, brings size, athleticism, and a high basketball IQ to a talent-rich Rutgers recruiting class. Joining fellow three-star recruits Gevonte Ware and Lino Mark, Powers sets the Scarlet Knights up for another promising season under head coach Steve Pikiell.

  • Led Rainier Beach High School to its 10th 3A State Championship, finishing with a 28–3 overall record and a perfect 14–0 record in division play.

  • Helped Rainier Beach become the #1 ranked team in the state of Washington.

AAU & EYBL Basketball (Rotary Rebels):

  • Averaged 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 0.8 steals over 15 games.

  • Shot 31.6% from three-point range and 85% from the free-throw line.

  • Excelled at Peach Jam on the EYBL circuit, averaging 16.8 points per game on 43.2% shooting, including 47.2% from three and 76.5% from the line across eight games (shooting splits: 43.2/47.2/76.5).

  • Impressed with standout performances in Augusta:

    • 28 points (6 three-pointers) vs. Kiyan Anthony and Team Melo

    • 17 points (5 three-pointers) vs. Jerry Easter and Team Final

  • Competed against future Rutgers teammate and 2025 commit Lino Mark.

  • Developed under Rotary Rebels head coach Daryll Hennings, who believes Rutgers is the ideal next step for Powers.

Achievements & Accolades:

  • 3-star recruit, ranked:

    • #2 in Washington

    • #37 shooting guard nationally

    • #179 overall (per 247Sports)

  • Visited Rutgers on October 2, 2024, and verbally committed just over a week later on October 11.

  • Officially signed with the Scarlet Knights on November 13.

  • Chose Rutgers over 15 other offers, including UNLV, Washington, Montana, and James Madison.

Personal:

  • Attended Rainier Beach High School, alma mater to several NBA players including Nate Robinson, Kevin Porter Jr., Dejounte Murray, CJ Giles, Doug Christie, and Terrence Williams.

  • Mentored by Jamal Crawford, a three-time NBA Sixth Man of the Year and Rainier Beach legend.

  • Powers' mother, Taryn, described Crawford’s mentorship as “a blessing,” adding that while Powers had support from many pro players, Crawford “took him under his wing” after a significant injury before his freshman year that sidelined him for a year and a half. That experience solidified Powers’ decision to commit fully to basketball over football..
