An alumnus of the Rutgers baseball program, Lou Clemente is in his third season as the volunteer assistant coach for the Scarlet Knights in 2017. His responsibilities include working with the outfielders, hitters and helping with the daily operation of the program among other duties.

"I'm very excited to join the staff," Clemente said upon being officially announced Jan. 22, 2015. "It is a great group of players and coaches. This is a very exciting season with us joining the Big Ten and we can't wait to get started."

"Lou brings energy and a great attitude to the program," Litterio said upon the hiring. "He has played with and is still friendly with a lot of the guys on the team. He hears everything and you need someone like that when you are trying to run a program. Lou is a great addition."

Serving in a variety of roles for the program, Clemente was part of the staff that helped the Scarlet Knights transition to the Big Ten Conference in 2015. The team earned three league series wins, including taking the weekend over No. 13 Iowa at Bainton Field. In 2016, RU had three players collect All-Big Ten accolades.

After playing his first two collegiate seasons at Brookdale Community College, Clemente joined the Scarlet Knights for the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In 2014 as a senior, Clemente started 40 games for Rutgers, primarily as a designated hitter, helping the team to a 30-25 record. The Union, N.J., native drove in 21 runs, collected 33 base hits and blasted two home runs in his final collegiate season. For his efforts, Clemente was named to the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association All-State first team.

As a junior in 2013, Clemente appeared in 38 games with 26 starts. In all, Clemente played in 89 contests during his two seasons with the Scarlet Knights, starting 66 games with 221 plate appearances.

At Brookdale, Clemente batted .333 in 2012 with 63 plate appearances as a sophomore. In his rookie season, Clemente led the team with a .409 batting average, producing 40 RBIs, 40 runs, 18 doubles and six home runs en route to a 2011 NJCAA Second Team All-America honors selection.

In high school, Clemente was a First Team All-Union County player for Roselle Catholic, batting .426 with 32 runs sored, 27 RBIs and six home runs while compiling a 4-2 record on the mound as a senior.

Clemente graduated from Rutgers in 2014 with a degree in history.
