Egbert Earns Final NJCBA Pitcher of the Week Award

PISCATAWAY, NJ - Junior Jack Egbert (Rutherford, NJ) earned the final New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Division I Pitcher of the Week award of the 2004 season. Egbert, who received the award three times this spring, improved to 7-3 with a dazzling performance vs. Pace on Saturday, May 8.
Egbert hurled a three-hit, compete-game shutout in RU's 6-0 win over the Setters, striking out eight while not walking a single batter. Egbert allowed back-to-back singles to open the game, but retired 27 of the next 28 hitters over the course of the game - the lone blemish being a leadoff single in the fourth inning. Following that single, Egbert retired the final 18 hitter he faced, striking out the last two to end the game.
Egbert (7-3) has allowed 78 hits in a team-high 75.0 innings this season, walking 20 and striking out 58. Opponents are hitting .270 against him this season. He won four-straight starts and has won five of his last seven. He is also 18-9 in his career, placing him in a tie for seventh.
Will Venable (Princeton) earned NJCBA Player of the Week honors, while Justin Braun (Monmouth) was the Rookie of the Week recipient.
The 2004 NJCBA All-State teams and major award winners will be formally announced on Monday, May 17.
