Egbert Signs with White Sox

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The successful career of Rutgers pitcher Jack Egbert (Rutherford, NJ) came to an end on Wednesday, when he signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox selected him in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player draft last Monday, June 7.
Egbert posted a 7-4 record in 2004 - a 1-0 loss to Notre Dame prevented him from leading the BIG EAST in victories - and led the team in innings pitched (87.2). He won 18 games in his three-year career - 10th-best on the Rutgers career wins list - and owned a 3.90 ERA as well. He was a standout in both the New England Collegiate Baseball League in the summer of 2002 and the Valley League in 2003, pitching the Winchester Royals to the league championship.
Egbert will begin his professional career with the Great Falls (MT) White Sox and play in the same league as fellow draft pick Nick Cerulo (Woodbridge, NJ), who was taken in the 26th round by the Kansas City Royals.
