Majewski to Play in MLB Futures Game on ESPN2

PISCATAWAY, NJ – Former Rutgers University standout and current Baltimore Orioles prospect Val Majewski (Freehold, NJ) has been selected to play in the sixth annual New York Mercantile Exchange All-Star Futures Game, which will be played Sunday, July 11 at Minute Maid Park in Houston in conjunction with the Major League All-Star Game.
The game matches top U.S. and International prospects, now playing in Minor League Baseball. The two 25-man rosters include players from all 30 Major League organizations. They will play a 7-inning game to be televised on ESPN2.
Former pitcher Goose Gossage will manage the U.S. team, assisted by Minor League managers Tony DeFrancesco (Sacramento); Jackie Moore (Round Rock); Bill Evers (Durham); Bobby Dickerson (West Tenn); and Tony Beasley (Altoona). Tom Brown of Portland (PCL) will be the pitching coach.
Former pitcher Fernando Valenzuela will manage the World team, assisted by Minor League managers Tom Runnells (Tulsa); Marc Bombard (Scranton/Wilkes-Barre); Ken Oberkfell (Binghamton); Mike Quade (Iowa); and Gary Jones (Mobile). Rick Dubee of Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will be the pitching coach.
Majewski is hitting .298 with 11 home runs, 14 doubles, three triples and 45 RBI for the Bowie (MD) Baysox of the Eastern League. He is 13th in the league in hitting. 12th in home runs and seventh in doubles in the league through games of June 21.
A three-year member of the Rutgers program, Majewski hit .364 with 11 home runs as a junior in 2002 and was selected in the third round by the Baltimore Orioles.
