Apr 07 | Baseball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (April 7, 2014) - Rutgers baseball redshirt freshman Kyle Driscoll (Toms River, N.J.) earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor in a release from the league office Monday. The right-hander struck out 11 in two starts for the Scarlet Knights last week, permitting just two hits and one run over 10 innings.
Driscoll is the third RU pitcher to receive recognition from the league, joining sophomore Howie Brey (Middletown, N.J.) and freshman Gaby Rosa (Perth Amboy, N.J.). Senior Brian O'Grady (Warminster, Pa.) also picked a Player of the Week earlier this season.
Making a midweek start, Driscoll earned his second win of the season with five scoreless innings and one hit allowed against Iona Tuesday. He then came back in the series finale versus No. 10 Houston and gave up one hit and one run in five innings. The right-hander notched six strikeouts and stranded seven runners on base in a no-decision.
The Scarlet Knights will next look to return to the win column in a home game scheduled for Tuesday in Lakewood, N.J., at FirstEnergy Park versus Fordham. Admission is free and first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
