
Zarrillo Earns Summer Honors

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (Sept. 1, 2014) - Rising senior Vinny Zarrillo (Forked River, N.J.) of the Rutgers baseball team earned both First Team All-New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) and Sportsman of the Year to cap off his summer season for the Laconia Muskrats. The outfielder also earned a spot in the NECBL All-Star Game in July.
Zarrillo led the NECBL in hits (57), was one of only three players to play all 42 games, placed second in at bats (171), ninth in runs (25), tied for third in doubles (10), sixth in walks (20) and tied for third in stolen bases (16).
The New England Collegiate Baseball League is a wooden bat college summer league that fields teams in all six New England states. Partially funded by Major League Baseball, the NECBL started play in 1994 and has sent over 100 alumni to the Major Leagues. For continuing coverage of the NECBL, visit NECBL.com.
Zarrillo hit .328 as a junior for the Scarlet Knights, knocking in a team-high 43 runs on the way to earn all-conference accolades. He enters his senior season with 153 career games, 162 hits, 77 runs, 89 RBIs and 70 walks.
Rutgers baseball starts its on-field preparations for the 2015 season with fall practice beginning Sept. 12.
