PISCATAWAY, N.J. - With a game-time temperature of 85 degrees at Bainton Field, the Scarlet iced the bats of the Knights by pitching a one-hitter in a 2-0 Wednesday victory. The result moves the Rutgers Fall Series to game six, as the Knights lead, 3-2.
Eric Reardon pitched four scoreless innings on the mound to earn the win and game MVP honors. He allowed just one hit and faced the minimum. Following up, Tevin Murray worked two hitless innings, while Ryan Wares worked around a walk to collect his second save of the series.
With no score in the top of the fifth, Tommy Genuario worked a leadoff walk and eventually came in as the go-ahead run. Kyle Walker added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI triple to plate Tyler McNamara, who went 2-for-3 on the day.
Colin Bohnert matched Reardon with four scoreless frames of his own, with Mike Martinez and Kevin Romero both seeing action on the mound in relief. Carmen Sclafani provided the only hit for the Knights, with Christian Campbell drawing a walk in the seventh as the only other baserunner.
The Knights will attempt to clinch the series for the second time in game six set for Thursday. First pitch at Bainton Field is scheduled at 10 a.m.
