
Fall Series: Knights Win Game One

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Rutgers Fall series started Monday and the Knights took game one behind three big innings, winning 14-3 at Bainton Field. AJ Gallagher earned MVP honors for the day by going 2-for-3 with two runs, a walk and a three-run double.
James Torres (1-0) picked up the victory on the mound with one run allowed over three innings. The right-hander struck out two and walked none. Kevin Romero and Joe Neglia each followed with two innings of relief to nail down the win.
With the Scarlet up 1-0 in the third, Gallagher came through with a three-run double as part of a six-run rally for the victorious Knights. Tom Marcinczyk also had a productive day with three hits and four RBIs, while Kevin Welsh, Mike Martinez and Carmen Sclafani all knocked in two. Anthony Santoro walked and scored three times. The team scored six in the third, three in the sixth and five in the seventh.
For the Scarlet, Nick Matera blasted a home run and Mike Carter tripled to highlight the offense. John O'Reilly dealt two scoreless frames as the starting pitcher.
Game two of the series will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. The gates at Bainton Field are set to open at 9 a.m.
