Former Rutgers standout to make third postseason appearance
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - After being traded to the New York Yankees in July, former Rutgers baseball standout Todd Frazier is set to make his third career MLB postseason appearance in the American League Wild Card Game on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The contest against the Minnesota Twins will broadcast on ESPN.
Frazier previously played in the 2013 National League Wild Card Game with the Cincinnati Reds and doubled versus the Pittsburgh Pirates, while seeing action in four games in the 2012 Division Series against the San Francisco Giants.
Since coming to the Yankees, Frazier has played in 66 games with a .788 OPS that includes a .365 on-base percentage and a .423 slugging percentage. He has hit 11 home runs with 32 RBIs. Overall, Frazier cracked 27 home runs in 2017 to join Josh Donaldson and Kyle Seager as the only Major League third basemen with at least 25 homers in each of the last four seasons (2014-17).
Frazier has been in the big leagues since 2011 and owns 175 career home runs, 498 RBIs and a .779 OPS in 938 games. He hit a career-high 40 long balls for the Chicago White Sox last season and will be eligible for free agency following the postseason. The two-time MLB All-Star won the 2015 Home Run Derby.
One of the most accomplished players in Rutgers history, Frazier ranks first in the RU record book with 42 career home runs and 210 runs during his three seasons (2005-07) in Piscataway. He hit .377 with 93 hits, 24 doubles, 22 home runs, 65 RBIs, 62 walks and 25 stolen bases in a memorable All-America 2007 season that saw the Scarlet Knights win the Big East regular season and tournament. Frazier batted .520 (13-for-25) with three homers and seven RBIs in the tournament held in Brooklyn to help lead Rutgers to an NCAA Regional berth. He was selected by Cincinnati as the 34th overall selection in 2007.
