LAST TIME VS. PENN STATE
Freshman Tim McQuaid's first career goal came with two minutes left in regulation and forced overtime between the Rutgers men's soccer team and Penn State. The Nittany Lions, however, netted the golden goal in the second overtime to take the game, 3-2, back on Oct. 21, 2016.
The Scarlet Knights battled back from a one-goal deficit twice before extra time was needed to decide the game.
Penn State struck in the 34th minute and held a 1-0 edge at the half. Pierre Reedy dribbled across the top of the box to Frankie Camara for the shot 18-yards out and inside the left post.
Dante Perez, however, tied the game four minutes into the second half. With the Nittany Lions deep in their own territory, Penn State tried to center the ball, but Brandon Tetro intercepted the ball for the takeaway and fed it ahead to Perez. From the middle of the box, Perez put the ball away into the lower right corner for the equalizer and his fourth goal of the 2016 campaign.
Penn State pushed ahead 2-1 in the 76th minute with Connor Maloney receiving a long pass at the top of the 18 and firing into the far corner.
The game was far from over though as Rutgers tied the game with 1:52 left in regulation. Off the corner sent in by Ryan Peterson, a Kieran Kemmerer header deflected the ball towards goal, finding McQuaid to tap the ball in at the goal line.
In the first overtime, the Scarlet Knight defense came up with blocks by Kemmerer and Tyler Morris to keep play going.
