PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball product Max Herrmann is set to sign a contract with the Los Angeles Angels. The left-handed pitcher will report to Arizona to begin his professional career.
"I'm extremely thrilled and excited to continue my baseball career," Herrmann said. "I'm forever grateful for Rutgers and would like to thank all of my teammates and coaches along the way."
Herrmann finished his time as a Scarlet Knight ranked second in school history with 86 appearances and third with 15 saves, notching 92 strikeouts in 128.0 innings. As a senior captain in 2017, he collected a 3.31 ERA and six saves with 29 strikeouts and a .242 batting average against. The left-hander went multiple innings 10 times this past season, including a career-high 3.1 frames versus No. 17 Michigan with no earned runs allowed and a two-inning save to preserve a one-run Big Ten victory over Purdue.
In 2016 summer action, Herrmann pitched in the prestigious Cape Cod League for the Brewster Whitecaps.
Herrmann, a native of Rutherford, N.J., was a four-time academic all-conference honoree and twice picked up Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status. A graduate student in the School of Management and Labor Relations, he currently has a 4.0 GPA. The academic success also merited a spot on the most recent CoSIDA Academic All-District II Team, which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
