Former Rutgers standout owns 214 career homers
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Texas Rangers announced the signing of former Rutgers baseball standout Todd Frazier on Wednesday. The contract includes $5 million guaranteed, with $3.5 million in 2020 and a $5.75 million club option for 2021 with a $1.5 million buyout.
A two-time All-Star, Frazier won the 2015 Home Run Derby. He has played in 1,186 MLB games with 1,019 hits, 624 RBIs and 585 runs with a .770 OPS.
The Texas Rangers are set to open a new ballpark in 2020, Globe Life Field.
One of the most accomplished players in Rutgers history, Frazier ranks first in the RU record book with 42 career home runs and 210 runs during his three seasons (2005-07) in Piscataway. He hit .377 with 93 hits, 24 doubles, 22 home runs, 65 RBIs, 62 walks and 25 stolen bases in a memorable All-America 2007 season that saw the Scarlet Knights win the Big East regular season and tournament. Frazier batted .520 (13-for-25) with three homers and seven RBIs in the tournament held in Brooklyn to help lead Rutgers to an NCAA Regional berth. He was selected by Cincinnati as the 34th overall selection in 2007 and was inducted into the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame last fall.

The New Jersey native is set for his 10th MLB season, having played the last two with the New York Mets. The third baseman blasted 21 homers in 2019 to make it eight consecutive seasons with 18 or more, being one of eight players to accomplish the feat. Owning 214 career long balls, he previously saw action with the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox after making his debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2011.The Toddfather is coming to Texas! pic.twitter.com/tfLLuKU3Mi
