
Rutgers Mourns the Passing of Hall of Famer Jim Monahan

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers remembers Jim Monahan, who passed away Saturday at the age of 91. A member of the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame, Monahan earned three letters apiece in football (1949-51) and baseball (1950-52).
Monahan is survived by his two living sons, Kevin John Monahan and James Edward Monahan Jr., and two grandsons, Gary James Monahan and James Edward Monahan III.
The captain of the 1951 football team earning All-East honors, "Mighty Mo" reeled of an 89-yard run at Temple, which still ranks as the fourth-longest rush in program history. The halfback was drafted in the 25th round of the NFL Draft by the Dallas Texans.
Monahan also excelled on the diamond in the spring. He was a part of the 1950 team that appeared in the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, finishing third. In 1952, Monahan was selected AACBC First Team All-America after hitting .400 with 26 hits, 18 RBIs and 17 stolen bases.
