PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball's
Ryan Lasko earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week for third time in four weeks, the league announced Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights have claimed the honor in 5-of-7 weeks this season and in each of the last four.
Â
"We are very proud of Ryan's maturation and the elite effort that he plays with every game," head coach
Steve Owens said. "The kid wants to win."

Â
In the comeback win over Iowa, Lasko reached base 4-of-5 times with two hits, a walk and a hit by pitch to score three times. The outfielder also had a multiple-hit performance in game two with a homer after going deep on Friday to knock in four altogether. Overall, Lasko slashed .333/.421/.800 with five hits, six runs and five RBIs in the four-game series against the Hawkeyes.
Â
Lasko leads Big Ten freshmen in slugging percentage (.688) and homers (8) for the season, ranking fourth and sixth, respectively, in the conference in the categories. He holds a .325 batting average and .396 on-base percentage with 19 RBIs, 17 runs and 55 total bases.
Â
Rutgers had collected three total Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in the six previous years in the conference, with Lasko matching the mark individually in the last four weeks (
March 30,
April 13).
Jordan Sweeney won the award on
April 7 and
Josh Rodriguez on
March 16.
Â
The Scarlet Knights (12-12) return to the road to face No. 17 Michigan (18-7) for a three-game series starting Friday. The 12 wins establish a new program high for a Big Ten season.
