CARY, N.C. (May 24, 2022) – Ryan Lasko was named a semifinalist for the 2022 Golden Spikes Award by USA Baseball on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Spikes Award is awarded annually the top amateur baseball player in the country and is the most coveted individual honor in college baseball.
He is one of 31 semifinalists, which includes 30 Division I players and just one other Big Ten player in Maryland's Chris Alleyne.
Lasko is in the midst of a historic sophomore season On the Banks, as he was just named All-Big Ten First Team, becoming part of the first crop of Scarlet Knights to ever receive the honor in the Big Ten.
He also become the first player in program history to be named Big Ten Player of the Week twice, receiving the honor on April 14th and May 3rd, while also being named National Player of the Week by four outlets on May 3rd.
On the season, Lasko is hitting .353 with 15 home runs and 49 RBI, primarily out of the leadoff spot. His 85 hits and 75 runs scored both lead the Big Ten. His 12 home runs in conference games were two shy of the Big Ten record of 14 home runs in a single conference season.
Lasko joins Todd Frazier in 2007 as the only two players in program history to be named a semifinalist for the award.
Fan voting will be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2022. Beginning with the semifinalist announcement and continuing through the finalist round voting deadline, Rutgers fans will be able to vote for Ryan Lasko on GoldenSpikesAward.com.
The winner of the 44th Golden Spikes Award will be named on Friday, June 24, on ESPN.
