Danny DiGeorgio Named Brooks Wallace Award Finalist

Award given annually to top shortstop in the country
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 1, 2022) -- After a historic season for the Rutgers baseball team, shortstop Danny DiGeorgio has been named one of six finalists for the Brooks Wallace Award. The award is given annually to the top shortstop in collegiate baseball and past winners include Trea Turner, Dansby Swanson and Alex Bregman.
As a graduate student for the Scarlet Knights, DiGeorgio was the every day starter at shortstop and set career highs in nearly all major categories with a .368 batting average, seven home runs, 59 RBI and a 1.032 OPS.
DiGeorgio was also a standout defensively for a team that led the Big Ten in fielding percentage the entire season, making a number of highlight-reel plays at shortstop.
Rutgers' season came to an end this week at the Big Ten Tournament, but no before DiGeorgio helped lead the program to a historic resurgence. He helped the Scarlet Knights break a program record with 44 wins and led them to the Big Ten Tournament, where they earned the No. 2 seed and advanced to the championship game. DiGeorgio was also one of three RU players to be named All-Big Ten First Team in 2022, the first players since Rutgers joined the conference to receive that honor.
