Lasko will report to Team USA training camp in North Carolina on June 30th
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 15, 2022) – Rutgers baseball outfielder Ryan Lasko was one of a select number of athletes to be invited to the 2022 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.
Team USA training camp is reserved for the top non-draft eligible college players, with between 48-50 athletes receiving an invitation each year. The invitees will play a five-game intrasquad series in from June 30th-July 4th in North Carolina. At the conclusion of camp, USA Baseball will name a 26-man Collegiate National Team roster to represent the United States at Hankbalweek Haarlem in the Netherlands from July 9th-15th.
Lasko just wrapped up one of the best individual seasons in Rutgers baseball history. He was named a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award, All-Big Ten First Team and East All-Region First Team, with a number of honors expected to be announced in the near future.
This past season, Lasko led the Big Ten with 90 hits and 81 runs, while also tying for the Rutgers lead with 16 home runs. His 12 home runs in Big Ten games were two shy of the all-time Big Ten record for home runs in a conference season. He batted .349 with a 1.074 OPS and stole 13-of-14 bases while establishing himself as one of the top defensive centerfielders and overall players in the entire country.
"Ryan is an excellent player who continues to improve," head coach Steve Owens said. "This is an exciting opportunity for him to be able to showcase his abilities and compete to earn a spot on the team. "
Only two Rutgers players have gone on to play for the Team USA Collegiate National Team, with Bobby Brownlee (2001) and Todd Frazier (2006) each representing Team USA on behalf of Rutgers.
