
Lasko Named ECAC Player of the Year, Owens Named Coach of the Year

Total of Five Scarlet Knights receive All-ECAC honors
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (June 28, 2022) – Rutgers baseball outfielder Ryan Lasko was named Player of the Year and head coach Steve Owens was named Coach of the Year by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Ryan Lasko was named ECAC Player of the Year after one of the finest individual seasons in program history. He led the Big Ten with 90 hits and 81 runs, while also tying for the Rutgers lead with 16 home runs. His 12 home runs in Big Ten games were two shy of the all-time Big Ten record for home runs in a conference season. He batted .349, hit 16 home runs and 51 RBI with a 1.074 OPS, stole 13-of-14 bases and collected 166 total bases.
Lasko adds this honor to his list of accolades that includes ABCA/Rawlings All-America Second Team, All-Big Ten First Team, All-Region First Team, Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist and invitee to USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.

The team's 44 wins set a new program record, while he also led the Scarlet Knights to a second-place finish in the Big Ten regular season standings, which qualified them for the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since joining the conference for the 2015 season. Owens also brought Rutgers to the Big Ten Tournament championship game after going 3-0 to start the tournament.
Under Owens in 2022, the Scarlet Knights broke program records with 44 wins, 565 runs scored, 147 doubles, 96 home runs, 519 RBIs, 1,172 total bases and 535 strikeouts. Rutgers led the country in road wins by a power-5 team (22), offense (9.6 runs/game), doubles (147) and runs (565).
In addition to the two major awards, Chris Brito (1B), Nick Cimillo (C) and Ryan Lasko (OF) were named to the All-ECAC Team, while Danny DiGeorgio (SS) and Dale Stanavich (P) were named Honorable Mention.

The ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) is an eighty-two-year-old organization with well over 200 member schools across all three NCAA Divisions - I, II and III. The ECAC exists to enhance the experience of student-athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics and provides great value for universities and colleges by sponsoring championships, leagues, bowl games, tournaments and other competitions throughout the Northeast. The ECAC's esports platform is growing and now totals more than sixty colleges and universities and is expanding the geographic footprint for the conference nationally. The ECAC is also sponsoring competitions and leagues involving other varsity and club sports that do not fall under the umbrella of the NCAA.
