Brito is a two-time All-Big Ten honoree and holds single-season RBI record with 74
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (August 17, 2022) – The Rutgers baseball team received a huge boost for the 2023 season when two-time All-Big Ten selection Chris Brito announced that he will return to Rutgers for a fifth season.
"Chris is a really good baseball player who continues to improve every year," head coach Steve Owens said. "His list of accomplishments is impressive, and we are very excited to have his talent and personality back here for another season. He will be very hungry to help his team win and continue building on his already impressive resume."
Brito set the Rutgers single-season RBI record with 74 this past season to go along with a team-high 16 home runs. Playing for the Bourne Braves in the prestigious Cape Cod League this summer, Brito was named an All-Star and led the league in numerous categories such as walks and doubles, while also hitting the furthest recorded home run of the season (455 feet) in the wood bat league.
Since arriving on the Banks in 2019, Brito has left his mark on the program and his name is etched in the Scarlet Knight record books. His 74 RBIs in 2022 set a program record, while his 16 home runs tied for third-most in RU history.
Brito is within striking distance of several career records, with his 32 career home runs 10 shy of Todd Frazier's record of 42 and his 145 career RBIs sitting 46 shy of Jake Daubert's record of 191.
