No. 8/9 Men’s Lacrosse Downs St. John’s

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — No. 8/9 Rutgers men's lacrosse used a strong second half to earn a 20-6 victory over St. John's on Tuesday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights outscored the Red Storm, 12-1, in the game's final 30 minutes to secure the win. Fourteen different Scarlet Knights recorded a point in the win, with nine different players scoring goals.
 
RU was led by Ross Scott, who netted five goals and recorded two assists. The senior captain's seven points marks a new season-high, and his second five-goal performance in three games.
 
Brian Cameron added a career-high six points in the win, scoring two goals and dishing out four assists.
 
Shane Murphy earned his first three collegiate goals in the game. The freshman recorded a hat trick in his third appearance for RU.
 
Jack Aimone recorded a career-high four goals in the win. Dante Kulas also added four points (2 goals, 2 assists) for RU.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, Jack Stachanczyk picked up a career-high six ground balls. The RU defense forced 17 SJU turnovers.
 
The Scarlet Knights had a strong day at the X, winning 19-of-27 faceoffs. Jonathan Dugenio won 14-of-19, earning a 0.737 faceoff percentage.
 
Game Summary
Scott got things going early with a goal at the 13:12 mark in the first quarter. Logan Peters then made the score 2-0 with his first goal of the spring. St. John's added its first goal of the game to cut into the RU lead, but Aimone and Eric Civetti added one goal apiece to extend the lead to 4-1.
 
The Scarlet Knights recorded two goals in the last thirty seconds of the first, and finished the quarter up, 6-2.
 
The Red Storm went on a three goal run to begin the second quarter. Scott ended the run with his third goal of the game, and Dante Kulas sent Rutgers into the half with an 8-5 lead after a goal at the one minute mark.
 
Rutgers hit the ground running in the third, outscoring St. John's 7-0 in the quarter. Kulas (1), Scott (2), Aimone (1), Cameron (2), and Nick Teresky (1) added scores for Rutgers, sending the Scarlet Knights into the fourth with a 15-5 advantage.
 
At the start of the fourth quarter, RU extended the run to 10 goals. Murphy recorded the first three goals of his career. St. John's added a goal to end the run, and Rutgers earned the win, 20-6.
