Baseball Drops Game Two to Mercer

MACON, Ga.Ā āĀ Rutgers baseball dropped game two of its series at Mercer, losing a back-and-forth affair by a score of 11-9.
While the Scarlet Knights (9-8) rallied from down 11-6 in the ninth to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, the Bears (14-6) were able to hold them at bay to win the game and even the series.
RU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth, thanks in part to two RBIs from Cam Love and an RBI single from Josh Kuroda-Grauer. Mercer bounced right back, putting up a run in the bottom of the fourth before exploding for 4 runs to take a 5-4 lead in the fifth.
While Rutgers was able to even things right back up in the top of the sixth, the Bears kept pounding away, scoring 2 in the seventh and 4 in the eighth to eventually pull ahead by a score of 11-6.Ā
In the top of the ninth, Jordan Sweeney and Evan Sleight singled to lead things off. Danny Melnick promptly homered to left to make it 11-9 with no outs. And while Ryan Lasko (single) and Cam Love (walk) both reached base with no outs, a double-play and flyout would end the game.Ā
Rutgers will wrap up its series at Mercer on Sunday, with the series finale set for noon on Sunday.Ā
