PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball dropped game two of its Big Ten series to Michigan State on Saturday, falling by a score of 10-4 at Bainton Field.
Despite the Scarlet Knights (13-13, 0-2) holding a 3-2 lead going into the fifth, a grand slam from the Spartans (16-8, 4-1) would put the visitors ahead for good as they cruised to a victory, clinching the series.
Christian Coppola started for RU and pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 4 runs (3 earned) on three hits, while striking out three and walking five.
Ryan Lasko homered on the first pitch he saw in the first inning and also drove in a run on an RBI single in the second.
Evan Sleight drove in the team's third run with a sac fly and
Hugh Pinkney walked with the bases loaded in the seventh to round out the scoring for the Rutgers lineup.
While the Scarlet Knights had seven hits, seven walks and only struck out twice the entire game, they once again had trouble manufacturing runs, leaving 12 runners on base on the day.
Rutgers will look to end the series against Michigan State on a high note on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the series finale.
