Baseball Falls in Game 2 to Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Rutgers baseball dropped Saturday's game to Iowa by a score 15-5 at Duane Banks Field.

The Scarlet Knights (23-15, 3-8) were unable to overcome a pair of early big innings from the Hawkeyes (21-15, 8-6), who secured the series victory with the win.

RU got on the board with an RBI groundout from Ty Doucette in the top of the first. Iowa would respond in the second with four runs on a hit-by-pitch, two-run single and sac fly.

The Hawkeyes then blew it open in the fourth, scoring eight runs on a two-run double, a pair of RBI singles and a grand slam.

Doucette hit his second home run of the weekend in the top of the fifth, a three-run shot that brought the score to 12-5. That was as close as Rutgers would get, with Iowa scoring three more in the seventh to make it 15-5.

Josh Kuroda-Grauer reached base four times in the game and with a leadoff single in the seventh recorded his 200th career hit, joining teammate Pete Durocher who also reached the milestone on Friday night.

The series finale between Rutgers and Iowa is set for 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
