Baseball Beats St. John's 15-0 With Complete Effort

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers baseball picked up a wire-to-wire 15-0 win over St. John's on Tuesday night at Bainton Field.

The Scarlet Knights (24-16) used a 15-run outburst on offense, a shutout from the pitching staff and errorless defense for a complete team victory over the Red Storm (25-10-1).

After RU loaded the bases with no outs in the first, Ty Doucette opened up the scoring with an RBI groundout. Tony Santa Maria followed with a two-run single. Pablo Santos (walk) and Cameron Love (HBP) each added another before Trevor Cohen delivered the big blow – a three-run double into the right field corner to make it 8-0.

Sonny Fauci set the tone in his first start of the season, pitching three shutout innings, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts and no walks.

In the bottom of the fourth, Doucette doubled home another, scored on a wild pitch and Jackson Natili singled in another to push the score to 11-0.

Ethan Bowen gave Rutgers 1.2 scoreless innings of relief, yielding a hit with one strikeout and two walks.

The Scarlet Knights extended their lead again in the fifth, with Cohen scoring on an error and Johnny Volpe clearing the bases with a hit to score three and make it 15-0.

Jake Marshall relieved Bowen with two outs in the fifth and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings with one hit allowed, striking out three with no walks.

Jordan Falco pitched a scoreless seventh, working around a leadoff double. Joe Mazza threw a 1-2-3 eighth, picking up a strikeout to end the frame.

Justin Sweeney closed out the victory, pitching a 1-2-3 inning and striking out the final batter of the game.

Rutgers returns to Big Ten play this weekend with a three-game set at Indiana.
